Norton Genie: Free App to detect Smishing and Phishing

I found a free app that can help discern smishing and phishing called Norton Genie.  I want to caution that it’s not always 100% perfect, but it definitely helps me. You can download it from the app store or google play.

So, in this example I got a text from someone named Miranda at Glassdoor.

I’m going to take a screenshot.  Now I’m going to open the Norton Genie app.

Click on the plus on the bottom and select “Add Image.”

Find the screenshot I just took and select “Scan Now.”

There we go!  It’s telling me this is a scam.

If you click “How do I know” its going to give me the elements that I should look out for next time to clue me in that its smishing.

And that’s all there is to it.
